Further Details - Local Area Capalbio To the north you see the dense cluster of Capalbio ending with its distinctive medieval tower,in between is the broad expanse of neighboring farms growing grain and raising cows and sheep, and then the sea. The distinctive bulk of the Monte Argentario accents the view of the horizon. From this angle you can understand how it came to have the nickname La Tartaruga for its resemblance to a turtle emerging form the water. Closer in is the curve of Ansedonia with one if tis three Saracen towers, the square Tagliata, clearly discernible. Then there is the mysterious Roman-settled island of Giannutri and the smaller 'Le Formiche' island, named the ant for having had the misfortune to be deemed 'low and black' by locals some unknown hundreds of years prior. And all around, the gleaming, enticing surface of the Tyrrhenian Sea being crisscrossed by pleasure craft from Porto Ercole and beyond. A visible ribbon of white edges the seven kilometer expanse of sandy beach that beckons you to the juncture of land and sea.
